The Kiev operation 1920, 26.5-17.6 Soviet forces of Southwestern Front with participation of  Dnieper navy during war with Poland (1920). The purpose- route Kiev grouping of the opponent (3th Аrmy), and then 6th Аrmy under Vinnitsa to create conditions for complete clearing of Ukraine. Despite of the superiority of the opponent (78 thousand soldiers against 46.4 thousand), the Soviet forces have broken through Poland defense, by impacts of 1st Cavalry Army and 12th Army on Zhitomir direction have put it to defeat.

At May meeting of the Commander by all forces of republic (S.Kamenev) with a management of Southwestern Front was decided to break through the Polish front by forces of the First Cavalry Army. For this purpose it should in short term make a long march, as it was on Northern Caucasus. And it has made this transition.

June 5, 1st Cavalry Army at support of 12th and 14th Soviet Armies has broken through front of the opponent and for the third day of fights has exempted Zhitomir and Berdichev.
