August offensive of Eastern Front  3-25.8.1918

At the end of July forces of Eastern Front included 4А, 1А, 2А and 3А, two operative groups (Dodonov and Trofimovsky) and Volga navy (all of 42 thousand bayonets, 1.5 thousand sabres, about 110 guns, 700 machine guns, 19 armed steamships). Armies of front in June - July order defense action on 2000-km front against rebellion and White forces (42 thousand soldiers, 10.5 thousand sabres, 150-190 guns).  

The plan of Soviet operation of Eastern Front provided rout Povolgsk Army by two impacts: from the north by forces of 5th Army and from the south on Samara by forces of  4th Аrmy. 1st Аrmy had a task to hold down the opponent at the centre from Hlyvansk up to Simbirsk, and then impact on Simbirsk to promote offensive of 5th Аrmy; 2nd Аrmy should come on Bogulma and Ufa in rear Povolgsk Army; 3rd Аrmy- on Ekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk. White Commander planned offensive by the Ekaterinburg group on Perm, Vyatka, and Povolgsk group on Kazan, Nizhni Novgorod with the purpose to incorporate with ANTANTA forces in the north, and then together with them come on Moscow. The auxiliary impact on Volsk, Saratov for an establishment of operative communication with Don kazak was planned also.

August Soviet offensive of Eastern Front - first front offensive operation of Red Army. Though the operation had no success, the actions of the Soviet armies have broken the ANTANTA plan on connection of rebellion forces by east, north and south.
