IN FRONT RING (May 1918-March 1919). The interventions begun in the spring of 1918 by the American-English, French and Japanese forces. This landing was a determinative in expansion of Civil war in Russia. The ANTANTA troops have landed in Murmansk, Vladivostok. The German armies has occupy of Crimea, have intruded in the Central Asia and Transcaucasia, have landed in Finland and Novorosiysk. The Soviet Baltic fleet was transferred in Kronstadt, and the Black Sea fleet in avoidance of capture it warships by German armies was flooded in Novorosiysk. Having created bridgeheads in the north, east and southeast of the country, ANTANTA has provoked rebellion generated in Russia by Czechoslovakia Corps (Rebellion of Czechoslovakia Corps 1918). Rebellion has recovered activity internal antirevolutions forces; with its help in May - July 1918, Czech have grasped Ural, Siberia and Far East. For struggle with them East Front was created.

The strategic plans of ANTANTA for the autumn-winter period in 1918/19 years provided simultaneously with expansion of military actions in the north and the east, organized large offensive from coasts of the Baltic and Black sea. The centre of gravity of military actions was transferred from the east to the south, to areas of the Black Sea coast and Caucasus, rich by oil, coal, iron and bread. Here occupants expected for close cooperation with Dobrovolcheskay Army of general Deniken and Kazak forces (Don Army) of the general Krasnov.
By plan developed by a staff of the general Bertelo, Chif Commander ANTANTA forces in the south of Russia, the offensive of incorporated occupation forces and White kazak from Black Sea bridgehead was planned on second half of December, 1918 by three directions: from Odessa, Herson and Nikolaev - in a direction of Kiev, Kaluga; from Sevastopol through Kharkovs and Kursk and from Mariupol - in directions Kupynsk both Voronezh. The Romanian and French armies act on the Kishinev direction, covered a wing of the main occupant forces. At the same time western strategic quite seriously considered a question on attraction to war Germany. At meeting in London in December, 1918 was recognized, that "to subdue Russia " probably only with the help of Germany. In western circles even the plans of a joint military campaign of the countries ANTANTA and Germany against Russia are developed.

The united campaign against the Russia external and internal antirevolution forces has required further increase of the Red Army. The aggregate number of occupation ANTANTA troops in Russia and White Armies by the end of 1918, achieved 316.5 thousand infaltry, 78.3 thousand cavalry, which has 607 guns and 1604 machine guns. This military forces were resisted by Red Army number of 220 thousand infaltry and cavalry with 624 guns, 2800 machine guns and 26 armoured trains.
